With incredibly bold foresight, Waterfront Perch is a major transformation in the making. What once was a grand estate with distinct Spanish architecture, rapidly became a derelict property. PLUSEN set out to propose various concepts for reviving the site. The current direction of the design plays off the architect’s plan to restore the Spanish-style building using the existing bones of the structure and incorporating a small addition.
The landscape will require a total re-design that plays off the changes to the building, and further enhances the potential of the original structure and site. Opportunities existed to celebrate the site’s spectacular river view, which had not previously been maximized. A relocated and redesigned pool will have a vanishing edge and unobstructed views beyond a cliff, to the river. The approach and arrival sequence to both the home and the pool house cabana will be reconfigured to compliment the steep topography of the property and the Spanish architecture of the building. Grand views will be revealed, an outdoor fire pit will be added, and railings and balustrades will be redesigned.
